BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Education has issued a plan to train more competent teachers with a focus on ideological and political education at universities.
More training symposiums, weekend classrooms and online courses will be put in place for university teachers of ideological and political education to hone their basic skills of Marxist theories, according to the plan.
Doctoral and graduate programs of Marxist theories will be strengthened to enroll more graduate students.
In the next five years, at least two teachers in each university will be selected to attend training programs. Trained teachers will mentor their peers to extend the coverage of the training. A number of top-notch teachers will have the chance to attend overseas training, according to the plan.
Financial aid will be granted to selected research teams, programs and teachers of ideological and political education. Media publicity of competent teachers and schools will be promoted.
The measures are expected to breed dozens of teachers of "national prestige," hundreds of leading teaching talents and tens of thousands of "backbone" teachers, according to the ministry.
