From Dec. 12 to 14, the 9th forum on environment and public health in Asian mega-cities was held in Fuzhou. Xia Jun, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Chen Yong, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and Ding Quan, dean of Seoul Municipal Institute of Public Health and Environment, as well as more than 60 scholars and experts from colleges and universities and research institutes both in China and other countries, such as the Republic of Korea, Australia, Singapore, Canada, Holland, attended the conference.
At the opening ceremony, Yang Yusheng, vice president of FNU, Chen Qinghua, president of Fuqing Branch of FNU, Xia Jun, Chen Yong and Ding Quan respectively delivered a speech. During the conference, the participants conducted in-depth discussions on such issues as solid waste recycling (by practicing the 5 principles of Reduce, Recycle, Relocate, Replace and Restore), river health management, the monitoring, control and assessment of PM 2.5 pollution, the pollution characteristics of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and the construction of circular economy and ecological civilization. And 43 experts and scholars respectively make a keynote speech or a report for breakout sessions, jointly contributing their wisdom to the construction and development of Fujian ecological civilization pilot zone. The experts and scholars present also visited some scientific research innovative platforms of FNU, such as Engineering Research Center of Polymer Green Recycling of Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Recycling of Fujian Province, and Digital Fujian Environmental Monitoring & IOT Lab.
