On June 29th, the 2nd “Chinese Language Teaching Idols” Summer Camp and the 2018 Exchange Conference on Teaching of Masters of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL), hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the National MTCSOL Education Steering Committee,and co-organized by China Education Television and Beijing Language and Culture University, came to a successful end. Liu Limin, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Education of PRC, President of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), member of Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Chairman of the National MTCSOL Education Steering Committee, Ma Jianfei, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director-Generalof Hanban, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters, and Vice Chairman of the National MTCSOL Education Steering Committee, Ke Chunhui, Secretary of the Party Committee of China Education Television, Liu Li, President of Beijing Language and Culture University, and Qian Yicheng, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the USA and senior adviser of hanban,attended the finals and presented the awards to the winners at the award ceremony.
Sun Mengnan, a student from College of International Education, FNU, instructed by Associate Professor Lin Yu, lived up to expectations during the competition and advanced to the finals after numerous highly competitive sessions of “Task-Based Culture Training”, “Chinese Teaching Summit”, “Youths of Chinese Teaching Say”, “Problems Embedded Micro Theatre” and “Who Is Still Standing”. In the finals, using the culture of the Palace Museum as the background information, Sun Mengnan, gave a wonderful lesson with Chinese existential sentences as the main subject of his teaching and made a keynote speech on the theme of “Never Forgetting Why You Started” in the form of the timeline, winning unanimous recognition from the judges and the second place in the competition.
The competition of “Chinese Language Teaching Idols”, which aims to improve the quality and level of postgraduate education for MTCSOL, lasted more than 90 days and attracted more than 300 “Chinese Language Teaching Idols” from 36 countries. The summer camp was held in Beijing from June 19 to 29, 2018. In the end, among the Chinese and foreign MTCSOL, there was respectively one champion, two runners-up, three third-place winners, and 2Best PerformanceAward winners and 2Best Popularity Award winners.
