International Forum on Collegiate Physical Education Building and Adapted Physical Education Development in the New Era Held at FNU

    On June 18th, the International Forum on Collegiate Physical Education Building and Adapted Physical Education Development in the New Era was held on the Cangshan Campus of FNU. The forum was co-hosted by Fujian Federation of Social Science Associations and FNU, and jointly organized by the School of Physical Education and Sport Science of FNU, Fujian Association of Social Sports Promotion & Research and Fujian Research & Guidance Center for Sports for the Disabled. Present at the event were Wang Xiuli, vice chairman of Fujian Federation of Social Science Associations, Liu Shaowu, vice president of Harbin Sport University, Wu Xueping, director of the Scientific Research Institute of Shanghai University of Sport, Kang Ronghui, head of the administration department of Fujian Federation of Social Science Associations, Tu Rong, vice president of FNU, heads of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science of FNU, as well as more than 60 experts and scholars from universities at home and abroad.

    At the opening ceremony, Wang Xiuli introduced the background of convening the forum and elaborated on the significance of developing adapted physical education. She stressed that colleges and universities should continue to shoulder the important task of both theoretical and practice-oriented development of adapted physical education and play their roles as main forces and places to help achieve its quality development.

    Vice President Tu Rong introduced the history of FNU, its achievements, characteristics and advantages, as well as a series of physical education building related results FNU has achieved in recent years. He noted that adapted physical education is a characteristic research direction, and that concern over both physical and mental health of special groups of people including physically challenged individuals is an important part for colleges and universities in carrying out their duties, such as personnel training, scientific research and social services. The forum will provide instructive ideas for the regional integration of adapted physical education across the country and new visions and methods to make China a leading sports power and implement healthy China, Tu said.

Revolving around the theme of “Collegiate Physical Education Building and Adapted Physical Education Development”, the forum comprised two sessions: keynote speeches and academic salons. In the session of keynote speeches, experts and scholars from universities at home and abroad, such as Shanghai University of Sport, South China Normal University and East China Normal University, made their academic reports respectively, such as Inclusion as a Subjective Experience, Practices and Explorations of Adapted Physical Education for Promoting the Health of Special Groups of People and International Trends of Researches on Adapted Physical Education. The academic salons consisted of “Budding Views on Adapted Physical Education” and “Share Your Views on Adapted Physical Education, exploring “What do we really focus on when discussing Adapted Physical Education?” and “What do we really focus on when talking about the inclusive development of Sports for the Disabled?” respectively. That was an exchange of thoughts and ideas between the new generation of scholars and senior experts.
