The symposium 70 Years of New China: Chinese Studies Abroad was held in Fujian Normal University (FNU) from March 29th to 31st. This symposium was co-hosted by Institute of Information Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and FNU, co-organized by the editorial department of Science Social Abroad of Institute of Information Studies in CASS, International Center for Chinese Studies of CASS, and Institute of Marxism in FNU, and assisted by the editorial departments of Theory and Review and Journal of FNU. Researcher Zhang Shuhua, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), president of Institute of Information Studies, CASS, Editor-in-Chief of Science Social Abroad, director of International Center for Chinese Studies, and researcher Lai Hairong, vice president of FNU, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Researcher Wu Li, deputy director of Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies, CASS, and Professor Huang Renwei, executive vice president of Institute of “Belt and Road” and the Global Governance, Fudan University, made keynote speeches respectively.
More than one hundred people attended the meeting. They included: experts and scholars from universities and research institutes such as CASS, China International Publishing Group (CIPG), Fudan University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing Audit University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Second Foreign Languages College, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Union University, Shenzhen University, Shandong University, Xiamen University and Wuhan University, editors from Science Social Abroad, China University Academic Abstracts, Xinhua Digest, Theory and Review, Journal of FNU, and Social Sciences In China Press, journalists from the Chinese Social Science Network and other media, and some Teachers and students from Institute of Marxism, FNU. Experts and scholars had further discussions and heated exchange of opinions on four issues: the political development of China from overseas perspectives, Chinese discourse and Chinese image construction, review and reflection of Chinese studies abroad in the past 70 years and monographic and national researches on Chinese studies abroad . The latest achievements in overseas Chinese research were revealed.
During the meeting, Zhang Shuhua and other experts also gave wonderful lectures which were well received by teachers and students in FNU. Editors concerned also held several forums with the editors of Theory and Review and Journal of FNU, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the experiences and practices of periodical running.
